Democratic structure

Our membership includes over 160 investor supporter members, in addition to student housing co-operatives known as user members. Investor supporter members have 25% of the votes at a General Meeting (GM), and can be elected to 1/3 of the board. User members have 75% of the vote at a GM, and can elect 2/3 to the board. Neither has a controlling interest.

Board Meeting frequency

The board meets on a monthly basis, elections to the board are held at the AGM in February on an annual basis. Co-opted directors. Board meetings are currently held on the last Thursday of the month, 6pm – 7.30pm, but this is reviewed with each new board.

Sub-committees

Open to board of Directors and registered volunteers (investor supporter members or student housing co-op members). The sub-committees are groups which focus on core tasks, which are delegated by the board of directors. The sub-committee include finance and property, member services, director recruitment and fundraising. These generally meet every two to three weeks on a mid-week evening for no more than 1.5 hours.

General Meetings (GM’s)

GM’s are open to investor supporter members and student housing co-op members. These are scheduled three times a year. These are often held on Saturday mornings, and include updates from SCH ,alongside opportunities to meet and chat with members.
